Our Shared Shelf – My Life on the Road
I’m a little disappointed to report that I couldn’t finish the January book from Our Shared Shelf. I’m sure it’s a fantastic book, filled with stories from Gloria Steinem’s life, but I just could not get into it. Other readers praised her and her book so much that I thought I would read it and immediately feel inspired.. but no.. I could barely drag myself halfway through the book. Today is the last day of January so I won’t be finishing it and will start with February’s book instead. There were a few readers who mentioned that they had a hard time getting through it because the chapters were very disconnected and reads like a collection of short stories versus one overall story. Some people also mentioned that the political talk sometimes got to be too much and bored them (me included).
There was only ONE chapter of the book I enjoyed. Gloria recounted stories that taxi drivers would share with her. Many of them were interesting and some of them were strange. The only thing I took away from this book was that everyone has a story.
February’s book is The Color Purple by Alice Walker. It’s a very popular book which has been made into a play and a movie so I’m excited to read this one!
